Following Dreams
Christopher J. Barfoot, created award-winning film productions - broadcast with ITV (LWT, Meridian etc.), NBC Universal Sci/Fi Channel and Sky Movies.
University Degrees
Chris went to University quite late in life, at aged 50. He gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Media Communication. He also holds a Masters Degree in Film Production. Chris believes you should do anything and everything if health allows. Age should never be a restriction to ambition.
The Wonder Years
Chris left school in 1983. After a series of false starts he joined the family business as an engineer, working across Scandinavia and then the Canary Islands, until attending Highbury College to study BTEC Media in 1989. He was a presenter with Winchester’s Hospitals Radio back then.
MediaVille
His first TV job was as a production assistant on (then) popular Nineties show ‘Capital City’. A couple of years on - he was writing and directing skits for Jeremy Beadle at LWT. He helped Edgar Wright with his debut feature of Fistful of Fingers, and then they worked together at ITV. Several festival winning short films later - having directed Prunella Scales, Andrew Sachs (Fawlty Towers) and Shane Richie (EastEnders)- his debut feature was greenlit with Ray Winstone, Samantha Morton and Vinnie Jones... A few months into development - sadly, it was canned.
Getting Real
Disillusioned and needing a job, fast - he quit the film business, choosing to drive a lorry for DHL. But after five years Chris needed full knee-replacement surgery. Incidentally, this was also the beginning of the new Conservative/Lib Dem alliance-government.
There followed a period blighted by great personal tragedy. The people of Bishop’s Waltham supported his family and years later - Chris wanted to be involved more with the town.
The Oracles & Political Positivity.
Chris formed The Oracles, a think-tank in BW composed of intellectuals, councillors and really anyone who had something to say. The Oracles being unbound by convention got things done... and these days still support the good works of the hard-working Parish Council.
Politicking has always been his passion, often Chris was told by friend and foe to stand for parliament if he felt so strongly about the state of the nation... and then, one day... he did. “I can do more for the people of Bishop’s Waltham, by doing more for the constituency of Winchester,” said he.
Improving the Lives of Others.
“The Election suddenly came upon us, and everything fell into place. Win or lose... standing for Member of Parliament is a great honour, possibly the greatest honour of a person’s life. To serve, and improve the constituency of Winchester will be my finest hour.”
